Expert: Trump’s bold statements on Ukraine ‘political manipulation’
US President-elect Donald Trump will soon take office, but the conflict in Ukraine will likely go on regardless, analyst of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research Aleksei Avdonin told Alfa Radio
“What does it all mean?” asked the host.
The expert added that it’s best to call things for what they are.
“The people who met in Ramstein once again are war criminals. Let’s call them what they are according to the international law. They know full well that if they stop, they, including NATO, the US together with Biden and all their presidents who made the decision to start escalating the conflict in Ukraine, are going to be court-martialled. They can’t stop; they are going to try and keep financing Ukraine, because they are scared of the military tribunal. All of them studied the international law, they know what a war crime is, and they realise everything they’ve done in Ukraine, starting with the 2004 revolution and everything that came after (the 2014 events, the civil war, etc.) are war crimes they are going to be held accountable for. So in order to avoid that, they count on history being written by the victors. And they want to be victorious. They are not doing very well in that area, but they can’t stop. Relatively speaking, they still have resources to continue this war, but those resources are finite. Not only are the resources finite, all of them understand the consequences further escalation of the conflict can have for NATO. Direct missile strikes on military headquarters, not only in Ukraine, but in the EU or the UK, using the Oreshnik systems, or tactical nuclear weapons. That can happen if they try to expand the conflict, try something in other regions of the Russian Federation, like Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Pskov regions, or make a move on Belarus. All that can be critical for their political, corporate, and other structures,” he said.
At the 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in the Ramstein format, the US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said, “Earlier today, the Coalition Leadership Group met again, including representatives from our 15 countries. And they endorsed Capability Coalition roadmaps leading to the year 2027. And through the Capability Coalitions, partner countries can continue to support Ukraine's urgent battlefield needs.” Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is set to receive additional military aid packages worth $2bn.
“Generally, we have already talked on this show that we shouldn't have any illusions about the change of leadership in the US,” Mr. Avdonin responded. “Trump’s bold statements about peace in Ukraine are political manipulation. If they are saying openly they have plans till 2027, that means they will keep financing Ukraine and supporting it with arms, materiel, instructors, and their own troops. Peace is out of the question! What are those meetings about? For clarity, Ramstein is a key US military base and the headquarters for the US Army corps. In other words, Americans come there as if it was their home, summon the EU officials there, and order them around. That’s how the colonial power exercises total control. Europe is a colony, while Ukraine is a frontier territory that shares a border with a state they consider their enemy, and that is how they fight.”
