Expert: sanctions are main cause of hunger on the planet
Kirill Petrovsky, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Belarus to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, delivered a speech at the 52nd session of the Committee on World Food Security that is being held in Rome on October 21st-25th, sb.by reports with reference to Belarus’ Foreign Ministry
"For several years now, the Committee on World Food Security has been discussing one of the main causes of hunger on the planet: unilateral coercive measures, or sanctions," Mr. Petrovsky said. “However, none of the sanctions-related decisions have been cancelled or revised over this time. Therefore, the committee needs to clearly and unambiguously state its position on the inadmissibility of using such instruments in international relations.”
Belarus’ representative called on the committee to strongly condemn the use of unilateral coercive measures, including those that are directed against food, fertilisers and their producers, and the ones that impede free trade in these goods, which are of exceptional importance for the security of mankind.
