Expert: Polish voters no longer want to take money out of their pockets to help Ukraine
Polish voters are aware of the need to help Ukraine, but they no longer want to pay for it – as stated by Professor Konstantin Simonov from Russia’s Financial University in his talk with Channel One
The expert was asked whether the differences between Poland and Ukraine have really escalated now, or is this such a staging for Polish voters on the eve of the elections.
“If Duda's party believes that this is what Polish voters want, then it is already important,” Mr. Simonov said. “Let’s consider that they do all this in order to ensure their party's continued dominance. At the same time, it means that the authorities realise that the electorate wants such a development of events. It means that Polish voters do not want to see Ukrainian grain at home, they are not going to help Ukraine economically and do not want to take money out of their pockets to support Kiev. There is an element of an electoral game here, but this game certainly reflects real contradictions.”
The expert recalled the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that – if the West does not support his country – the allies will have to fight Russia themselves. “Ukraine is a mercenary country that provides the West with a service for conducting military operations against Russia, demanding appropriate payment for this. Zelenskyy said bluntly: if you do not give Ukraine money, you will fight yourself. This is also a question for Poland. When Polish voters are openly told that they will have to fight when there will be no more Ukrainians, they are definitely not happy about it. The Polish leaders’ statements follow as a result that it is necessary to be more careful with the weapons transferred to Ukraine. I think such frank statements by Zelenskyy lead to a corresponding reaction of Polish residents," the expert added.
