Expert on priority directions for Belarus’ regional security
Diplomat Sergei Rachkov, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, told the SB TV YouTube channel which areas of international efforts are priorities for Belarus when it comes to regional security: strengthening the Union State security, working within the CSTO, and developing relations in Eurasia
The first direction is to strengthen the Union State defence and security and working with the Russian Federation in this area.
“A lot is being done in this regard. For example, a number of conceptual documents related to this topic are currently being finalised. We have already updated our Military Doctrine, and now we are talking about adopting a document related to ensuring information security,” Mr. Rachkov noted.
The second direction covers work within the CSTO framework.
“We are working to strengthen the security of the countries that are members of the CSTO,” the diplomat added. “Despite the difficulties associated with Armenia’s position, the CSTO is working, the drills and trainings are being conducted within the framework of the association, and parliamentarians are actively working.”
The third direction is connected with Eurasia as a whole, as well as with the SCO’s capabilities.
“Now we are preparing for the 2nd security conference that will take place in Minsk on October 31st and November 1st. Interesting speakers have been announced, and a range of high-ranking guests will be attending the event. We can already note the growing interest in this conference compared to the first forum. I am sure that it will attract the attention not only in the region but also from world experts on the issues that will be voiced at the conference,” Mr. Rachkov explained.
