Expert explained calls from Germany to restore Nord Stream pipelines
There’s nothing surprising about the call from German politician Reiner Rothfuss (Alternative for Germany) to restore the Nord Stream pipelines and the energy partnership with Russia: the German economy is going through hard times, said MP Aleksandr Shpakovsky in his talk with Alfa Radio
Mr. Shpakovsky reminded that Rothfuss represents the opposition party German ruling elites are trying hard to contain, despite Alternative for Germany making rapid gains in popularity.
He also added that the ruling Social Democrat Party in the person of Chancellor Olaf Scholz suddenly started making nods towards the Russian Federation.
“This can be explained by the woeful state of the German economy and Scholz’s political ratings. The United States are relentless in making Europe, Germany included, pivot to expensive US-supplied LNG. That has already made an impact on the German industry: Volkswagen and Audi reported mass layoffs,” the expert said.
On top of losing access to relatively cheap energy, the German economy suffers from the Chinese competition and from losing the considerably deep Russian market.
“Remember how sad he looked when he was refusing to supply tanks to Ukraine? Then he agreed to do it, but started looking even sadder,” said the MP.
