Energy Minister: BelNPP supplies about 40% of the country’s energy

The Belarusian NPP generates about 40 percent of the country’s energy – as stated by Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko at the Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum opening

“BelNPP is currently operating at full capacity, with both its power units online. It has already produced over 35 billion kWh of power since launch. The plant generates about 40 per cent of all energy in the country. That makes us profitable economically: we have already replaced around 9.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas. The NPP is also good for the environment: it cuts down greenhouse gas emissions by 7 million tonnes per year,” said the Minister.

He also detailed the progress toward the common energy market between Belarus and Russia. The two cornerstone documents: the agreement and the market operation rules are currently undergoing approval processes at the national level. So far, the Minister did not specify the exact time for the agreement signing and the common market launch.

The 18th Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum is taking place on October 15th -18th in Minsk. Its visitors have a chance to see a broad range of solutions from various areas. The forum encompasses thematic international exhibitions: Energy. Ecology. Energy saving. Electro (ENERGY EXPO), Innovative Industrial Technologies (Green INDUSTRY), the Salon of Innovative Transport (eTRANS), Technologies for Petrochemical Industry (OIL & GAS Technologies), ATOMEXPO Belarus, ExpoLIGHT, Water and Air Technologies, and ExpoCITY.

This year, the event showcases over 200 Belarusian energy organisations and foreign companies interested in the Belarusian market. The Energy Ministry, Belenergo, Beltopgas, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, the State Energy and Gas Supervision, the Belarusian Radioactive Waste Management Organisation, Ekonomenergo.

The forum’s business program offers over 30 events, including workshops, round tables, and public presentations, for experts and corporate representatives to discuss current issues faced by the industry. Participants plan to pay a great deal of attention to personnel training and strengthening the ties between engineering education institutions and potential employers.
