Dozens of animal and bird species, including rare ones, captured by Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve camera traps
This year turned out to be rich for ‘photo catch’ for the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve. Dozens of rare species of wild animals and birds were captured by the camera traps installed around the perimeter of the nature reserve back in spring. Now the results of the ‘photo hunt’ are being summed up.
“Now we have a unique photo archive. In fact, it is very rare to see badgers and lynxes carefully avoiding human eyes in the forest. It is almost unreal to come across a black stork – listed in the Red Book. But with the help of camera traps, it turned out to be quite possible!” noted Anastasia Ryzhkova, who heads the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve’s scientific department.
Of course, clumsy bears were the main heroes of successful shots. The chronicle of the film footage shows that at least once a week the bears take their usual routes around their properties. But sometimes they also look into neighbouring ‘alien’ territories, e.g., three different bears were spotted in the same place at different times. The camera trap also captured a large family: a mama bear with three bear cubs. The pictures also show beautiful deer with magnificent antlers, huge moose posing right in front of the lens, a powerful wild boar, a fawn and its mother grazing near the salt marsh, as well as sneaky wolves and other masters of the forest.
