Defence Ministry: new UAVs are being developed and phased in

The Head of the Department for Unmanned Aerial Systems of the Armed Forces of Belarus Mikhail Bryansky revealed details of new UAVs' development and phase-in, sb.by reports citing the Defence Ministry

According to Mr. Bryansky, this year brought in a lot of new projects.

“We work closely together with the State Committee on Military Industry (Gosvoenprom), so we have already phased in multiple pilot projects developed on our request. Right now, they are designing the new Kvadro-M type drone: the Kvadro-1400 cargo copter. We plan for it to enter service next year,” he said.

The spokesman also mentioned the Berkut-3 model which is already in service. The system is similar to the Russian Supercam used in the special military operation zone, but it features some solutions that make it function better.

The first Belarusian-made loitering munition, Chekan-V, also entered service in 2024.

“We tested it and phased it in; UAV units equipped with that system are planned to be introduced next year. The UAVHeli (Unmanned Helicopters) design bureau developed the Mirotvorets unmanned system that currently finishes testing. It’s a loitering munition with the range of 100 kilometres, able to carry a payload of 10 kilogrammes,” said Mr. Bryansky.

He added that the Armed Forces of Belarus already have experience in handling recon drones, and now are successfully solving the issue of loitering munitions.

“After we finish testing in 2025, we are going to have a broad range of loitering munition types at our disposal, including FPV drones like Chekan-V (range up to 30 kilometres), Mirotvorets, etc. On top of that, our Unmanned Aerial Systems Centre 927, and the armed forces in general are going to start assembling so-called FPV drones in mechanised brigades, for instance. I can confidently say they are already mass-produced. The 927th centre has a specialised unit: a shop for assembling and repairing UAVs. It functions smoothly and has decent production capacity,” added the speaker.
