Chinese FM called for lifting long-standing sanctions against Syria
The international community must achieve the lifting of long-standing unilateral sanctions against Syria, as well as support its territorial integrity – as stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, TASS reports
Speaking to reporters following a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, the Chinese Foreign Minister said, “The international community must effectively protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, respect its national and religious traditions, and allow the Syrian people to make independent decisions. All countries should jointly extend a helping hand to Syria and achieve the lifting of illegal unilateral sanctions that have been imposed on it for many years." He noted that, by doing this, the world community is able to alleviate the difficult humanitarian situation in Syria.
"The situation in Syria has become dramatically more complicated recently, and the Chinese side pays great attention to this. China has long pursued a policy towards Syria to [strengthen] friendship and co-operation. We never interfere in its internal affairs and respect the choice of the Syrian people," Wang Yi added.
