Vucic: US sanctions against Serbia will not force it to impose restrictions against Russia
Washington's decision to impose sanctions against the Serbian company NIS due to the Russian ownership of the enterprise will not affect Belgrade's refusal to join the anti-Russian restrictions – as stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, TASS reports
On the air of Radio Television Serbia (RTS), Alexander Vucic said, "Would someone like us to impose sanctions against Moscow, and then think [about lifting American sanctions against NIS]? I do not rule out such a possibility, but I have no proof. As President of Serbia and the one who chairs the National Security Council, I am not ready at the moment to discuss potential sanctions against Moscow at all."
According to the Head of State, for almost three years, Serbs have been pursuing a principled, serious and responsible policy – advocating peace, adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, asking for truce, and imposing no sanctions against Russia.
"We need to talk to Americans first to get the document. We have some kind of official confirmation, but we need to see the document itself (we have not yet read it). When we see the document, we will first discuss it with Americans, and then we will talk with Russians. We have to solve the problem," the Serbian leader emphasised. He clarified that Belgrade would try to ‘maintain friendly relations with Russians and not spoil relations with those who impose sanctions’.
