British Defence Minister complained about UK army’s outdated weapons
Weapons and military equipment of the United Kingdom's ground forces need to be modernised against the background of more modern types of weapons possessed by other branches of the British Armed Forces – as stated by the Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, TASS reports
At a conference of the Conservative Home online publication, Mr. Wallace said that the UK’s land forces resemble expensive wine ‘which turned sour about fifteen years ago’, adding that he was ‘involved in the negotiations’ to increase the country's military budget and the army size (which currently exceeds 72 thousand servicemen).
“Military equipment is in dire need of replacement,” the UK Secretary of State for Defence said.
Earlier, the media cited their own informed sources to report that Mr. Wallace, in connection with the Ukrainian conflict and high inflation, speaks in favour of increasing the UK’s military budget by 20 percent in the next two years. At present, it exceeds $58bn a year.
