Brantsevich: purposeful work underway in Belarus to achieve SDGs

This was stated by Belarus’ Deputy Economy Minister Tatiana Brantsevich, speaking at the Intersectoral Co-operation in the Context of Achieving the SDGs conference, held in the Brest Region’s Stolin as part of the work of the 17th Republican Environmental Forum, timed to coincide with the Year of Peace and Creation – as reported on the official website of the Belarusian Economy Ministry

The Deputy Head of the economic department noted that Belarus, along with other countries, has assumed obligations to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“The ideology of sustainable development is not new for our country. Throughout Belarus’ existence as a sovereign state, we have been pursuing such a policy which definitely brought positive results. In the SDG achievement ranking, in 2022, Belarus was ranked 34th among 163 countries, and boasted the highest ranking among the CIS states. According to the World Bank, over 30 years, GDP per capita at purchasing power parity in Belarus has quadrupled: from $5,500 in 1991 to $21,300 in 2022. According to the WHO, we have advanced to a leading position in the world in terms of people’s access to medical services. As a result, the life expectancy of the population is steadily increasing. In terms of indicators in the field of education, the Republic of Belarus is included in the group of 30 most developed countries in the world. In terms of the literacy rate of the adult population and the coverage of the employed population with basic, general secondary and vocational education, we have approached 100 percent. Belarus is a country with a high quality of life, ensuring social stability and guaranteeing security,” the Deputy Economy Minister underlined.
