“We took the deer from Belovezhskaya Pushcha to resettle them in Brest Region in November 2024,” the national park’s hunting and fishing department representatives said. “Also in November, we signed a contract to supply 63 red deer to the Gantsevichi forestry. We met all our commitments pertaining to the dispersal of the animals by the end of December: all the contracted specimens were delivered to the customer.”

They added that, as of now, all the deer have been moved and handed over for further breeding in Gantsevichi District.

Red deer is a re-introduced native species for Belovezhskaya Pushcha, meaning it was resettled in the area that used to be its habitat earlier. They inhabit relatively sparse forests with pine, ash, oak, aspen, linden undergrowth, or thick underbrush of juniper or willow, or generous blueberry bush cover. Their food base is tree or bush branches, grass, and acorns if the year was good for them.

Brest State Forestry Organisation’s Gantsevichi forestry is located in Gantsevichi District in the northwestern area of Brest Region. The forestry can be found in the eastern part of the district.
