BelNPP second power unit to be connected to the grid in March-April 2023
The first trial connection of the second power unit of the BelNPP to the grid is planned for March-April 2023 – as noted by Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk during a press tour to the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP)
According to him, the installation of technological equipment and pipelines is almost completed at the power unit.
“Commissioning works are being carried out. Preparations are currently underway for heating and hydraulic testing of the primary and secondary circuits of the reactor plant for strength and density. This will be followed by reaching the minimum controlled power level of the reactor plant,” added Mikhadyuk.
After that, specialists will have to conduct a large amount of physical, electrical and other tests in various operating modes of the unit with a phased increase in its capacity.
The commissioning of the second power unit is scheduled for H2 2023.
The first power unit of the BelNPP has generated 11.7 billion kWh since its inclusion in the unified energy system. According to Mikhail Mikhadyuk, this enabled to replace about 3.3 billion cubic metres of natural gas. The unit is currently running at nominal power.
