The trade turnover between Belarus and China continues to grow, and it set a record of $7.65bn in 2023 – as noted by the Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mikhail Myatlikov, at a recent business meeting between of the business circles of Belarus and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China
Mr. Myatlikov noted that Belarus and Xinjiang are at the intersection of important trade routes, “This makes our co-operation especially relevant in the context of the One Belt, One Road global initiative, while creating unique opportunities for expanding economic ties and increasing the volume of mutual trade. It is very important today to ensure the PR aspect of our business interaction: Belarusian and Chinese entrepreneurs should know more of each other’s markets.”
According to the BelCCI Chairman, the trade turnover between Belarus and China continues to grow: in 2023, it amounted to $7.65bn. “Our exports primarily include potash fertilisers, timber, meat and offal, rapeseed oil, and polyamides. In turn, we import passenger cars, communication equipment and components, computers, spare parts for cars and tractors, and washing machines,” he said.
Mr. Myatlikov stressed that Belarus offers high-quality goods in such fields as mechanical engineering, food and pharmaceuticals, which may be of interest to the Chinese market, “At the same time, we are ready to consider the possibility of importing goods from Xinjiang, which will allow us to expand the range and improve the quality of products for our consumers. We are also ready to discuss joint investment projects that will bring mutual benefit and contribute to the development of our countries, especially in key sectors such as agriculture, transport and logistics, and high technology. We can develop joint production, especially in industries such as mechanical engineering and electronics. Another area is related to construction and infrastructure. We can liaise in the field of infrastructure modernisation, which is especially important for improving the efficiency of trade and logistics, as well as the construction of civil facilities. Some joint projects have already been successfully implemented.”
The BelCCI Chairman added that the Belarusian-Chinese co-operation is strategic in nature, it is developing in the spirit of iron brotherhood and all-weather partnership. “Of course, it is necessary to develop and expand traditional areas of our interaction,” he stressed.
