Belarusian and Russian military started combat co-ordination stage of joint exercise

Military units and detachments of the Armed Forces of Belarus and the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, involved in the check of the Union State response forces, have launched combat co-ordination at the Domanovsky, Gozhsky, Obuz-Lesnovsky, Brestsky and Osipovichsky training grounds – as reported by BelTA with reference to the website of the Russian Defence Ministry

“Motorised rifle units, crews of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery crews, and crews of anti-tank guided missile systems are conducting control exercises in tactical and fire training, driving combat vehicles and other training. Units of the Russian Armed Forces, together with units of the Armed Forces of Belarus, work out various techniques and methods of combat operations in common combat battle deployment. During the combat co-ordination stage, the issues of defence and combatting illegal armed groups are being worked out on the training grounds,” reads the message.

The Defence Ministry noted that the goals of combat co-ordination are to achieve a high level of readiness for joint actions.

The inspection of the Union State response forces takes place in two stages.

During the first stage, until February 9th, the transfer and creation of groups of troops (forces) will be carried out as soon as possible on the territory of Belarus, the organisation of the protection and defence of important state and military facilities, the protection of the state border in the airspace, checking the readiness and ability of the air defence forces and means on duty to perform tasks to cover important objects on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

During the second stage of the inspection, from February 10th to February 20th, the Allied Resolve 2022 will be held, within the framework of which the issues of suppressing and repelling external aggression, as well as countering terrorism and protecting the interests of the Union State will be worked out.

During the exercise, measures will be carried out to strengthen the protection of the state border to prevent the infiltration of armed groups of militants, to block the channels of delivery of weapons and ammunition, as well as to search, block, destroy illegal armed formations and sabotage-reconnaissance groups of a mock enemy.

The practical actions of the troops will take place at the Domanovsky, Gozhsky, Obuz-Lesnovsky, Brestsky and Osipovichsky training grounds, as well as in certain areas on the territory of Belarus. It is planned to use the airfields of Baranovichi, Luninets, Lida and Machulishchi.

The Ministry emphasised that the number of military personnel and equipment involved in exercise that fall under the Vienna Document 2011 ‘does not exceed the parameters that are subject to notification’.
