Belarus, Russia continue to work on creating single Union State media holding

The joint meeting of the Information Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian approved a plan to establish a media holding in pursuance of the instructions of the Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko

This was announced by Belarus’ Information Minister Vladimir Pertsov. According to him, there was a need to intensify work on the creation of a Union State media holding company, since the topics of the Union State are covered quite vectorially by the federal and republican media of the countries. He also said that a single media holding will unite all the resources of the Union State, “The media company will be aimed at promoting the information agenda of the Union State in our countries, since this topic is more and more in demand.”

The Information Minister of Belarus noted that the departments have already held a number of meetings on this topic, as well as meetings of working groups, “A detailed plan has been worked out, as well as a roadmap describing in stages the actions that our state bodies should take, enabling the Union State media holding company to work in full force in the near future.”

Before the start of the joint meeting, Bella Cherkesova, the Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, told journalists that the challenges faced by Belarus and Russia in the information field are similar, “We want the media of the Union State to be more functional and popular among a variety of audience groups. Therefore, we came here to discuss approaches, as we will see them in the future, in order to reform them.”

Bella Cherkesova noted the need to share experience between the two countries, “We’re interested in the approaches used in Belarus. We are open and ready to discuss. Moreover, I know that many of our media are friends and interact, as well as share experience.”
