Belarus makes 1,900+ types of dairy products
The range of dairy products made in Belarus grew to 1,900, said Maria Klimova, the Deputy Head of the Meat and Dairy Industry Department at the Agriculture and Food Ministry
“We make over 390 types of cheese, about 40 types of butter, including lactose-free butter, butter with Provence herbs, with garlic, etc. Our range of lactose-free and low lactose products is expanding: lactose-free cheeses are now being made in Grodno Region. We also produce lactose-free cream and ice cream, and plan on expanding that range,” she said.
According to the expert, Belarusian dairy producers can satisfy the domestic demand with no trouble at all. Belarus makes almost 3 times as much dairy products as it needs for internal consumption: 908 kilogrammes per capita in raw milk terms against the required 240 kilogrammes per capita.
“We take all steps needed to grow further and make high added value products. Food security is one of the top priorities for our national agrarian policy,” summarised Ms. Klimova.
