Belarus’ flu vaccine to appear in 2024
Director of the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Andrei Goncharov named the time frame for our country to have its own flu vaccine
“A Belarusian inactivated influenza vaccine is currently being developed. It will be tetravalent, i.e., it will contain two strains of influenza A and two strains of influenza B. Unlike most drugs that are currently used in our country, the virus will be grown not on chicken embryos, but on cell cultures, thus preventing one of the main contraindications for vaccination: an allergy to egg protein albumin. Laboratory development will be completed next year, and we’ll begin adaptation and industrial production together with Belvitunipharm JSC,” he said.
