Belarus, China deepening co-operation

A high level of co-operation between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China has been achieved due to the selfless, proactive and, of course, creative work of Belarusian and Chinese specialists, who at various stages have made and continue making their invaluable contribution to strengthening contacts between the two states

It is possible to assert with confidence that all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership has been established between Belarus and China, and mutual respect, sincerity and friendship are at the heart of bilateral relations. Every year, major forums and conferences become platforms for discussing important interstate areas of interaction. Prospects for co-operation are outlined there, in addition to concrete steps for their implementation.

Dmitry Yaroshevich, the Deputy Chairman of the Development Bank Board, has recently paid a working visit to the People's Republic of China , where he held talks with Yang Weiqun, the Deputy Chairman of the China International Development Co-operation Agency. The parties discussed issues of relations between the two states, as well as promising areas for sustainable development of the states.

The second high-level conference of the Global Action Forum on Sustainable Development – Accelerating Sustainable Development: Continuing Action for Wonderful Future – in Beijing became another significant point of the visit programme. During his talk with local media, Mr. Yaroshevich noted that thanks to the exemplary mutual understanding between the heads of states, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Xi Jinping, co-operation between Belarus and China had reached a completely new qualitative and effective level.

“Belarus highly appreciates the Global Development Initiative proposed by the Chinese President three years ago. Global challenges require co-ordinated efforts from countries, and only joint actions will make it possible to achieve significant results in such areas as poverty reduction, environmental protection, food security, infrastructure and technology development, and digitalisation promotion," the representative of Belarus said, adding that the country demonstrates achievements in these areas, “Belarus has earned a reputation as a producer of high-quality food and powerful agricultural machinery, it has a strong agricultural sector and is famous for its openness in relations with partners and striving for progressive development.”

Every country, regardless of its size or socio-economic level, can contribute to the overall goal of global development. The exchange of knowledge and resources, as well as co-operation in areas such as science, technology and innovation, can significantly accelerate the process of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Belarus continues to make successful progress in this direction: a year ago, it was 34th out of 166 countries in the SDG ranking, but it is now closing the top 30. Our republic belongs to the category of countries with a very high level of human development, ahead of many European countries. Actually, there are always growth prospects, and I am convinced that our joint work in this direction will continue: after all, when uniting our efforts, even the smallest steps can lead to positive changes," Mr. Yaroshevich concluded.
