Attack on the Belarusian embassy in London

The Belarusian Embassy in London was attacked in the evening of December 19th, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told sb.by

First, a group of people damaged the facade of the foreign mission building, and then attacked the Belarusian diplomats who arrived at the site. One of them was seriously injured and needed urgent medical assistance. In the health facility he was diagnosed with a broken nose, mild concussion and a traumatic tooth fracture.

After the arrival of law enforcement agencies, the radicals attempted to escape from the scene. Nevertheless, some of the attackers were detained by the London diplomatic police.

It has been established that the persons, presumably, belong to the radical émigré group Nadzeya.

“This attempt committed against persons who, through their duty, protect the interests of Belarusian citizens and work to improve interstate relations, once again eloquently demonstrates the true face and methods used by the fanatics, whom a number of countries of the collective West are persistently trying to pass off as peaceful protesters,” reads the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The UK Chargé d’Affaires has been summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. He was presented with a decisive protest and a demand to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident, to bring the perpetrators to justice, as well as to inform the Belarusian side about the course of the procedural actions and their results.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus assumes that the British authorities will take all appropriate measures to protect the embassy from any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of the peace of the mission or insult to its dignity, in accordance with Article 22 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Moreover, the Foreign Ministry wished their colleague a speedy recovery.
