Andreichenko: Belarus actively developing relations with Africa, and Sudan plays a major role here
A visit of the President of Belarus to Sudan in January 2017 created fertile ground for development of co-operation between the countries – as stated by Vladimir Andreichenko, the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, during his meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to the Republic of Belarus, Mohammed Omer Musa Ali.
On addressing the diplomat, Mr. Andreichenko expressed conviction that the constructive and friendly relations developed between Belarus and Sudan with active participation of Mohammed Omer Musa Ali will further develop. “In recent years, the Republic of Belarus has been actively developing relations with African countries, where Sudan plays an important role. Moreover, Sudan is located in the centre of the African continent – being a gateway to other states,” he said.
Mr. Andreichenko recalled that, in the autumn of 2017, Sudan was also visited by a Belarusian parliamentary delegation, and a number of previously reached agreements regarding supplies of tractors to this country have been implemented by now. In turn, Belarusian food industry enterprises have imported Sudan peanuts.
“We then agreed on the supply of grain storage facilities from Belarus to Sudan in the amount of about $70m. We also had a number of top-level meetings, discussing the prospects of exploration of deposits and mining. A wide range of issues were identified on which we were going to co-operate," Mr. Andreichenko said, adding that not all plans have been realised. “With this in view, during Belarusian leader’s meeting with you on September 30th this year, he said that we need to move forward.”
Mr. Andreichenko expressed confidence that, during his visit to the Belarusian regions, the diplomat will be able to feel the country’s potential in the economy, industry, agriculture, culture and tourism – to further determine priority areas for work together with the parliamentary group members.
As noted by the Chairman of the House of Representatives, a working group on co-operation with certain African countries – Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan – has been established in Belarus’ Parliament. “You can always count on the help of parliamentarians in your diplomatic work,” he assured Mohammed Omer Musa Ali.
