Lukashenko appointed Brest Region Governor Yuri Shuleiko Deputy PM

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has made today a number of important personnel decisions. Thus, the Head of State appointed Yuri Shuleiko the Governor of the Brest Region, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of agricultural issues.

The Head of State indicated that, alongside agriculture, the new Deputy PM may have to oversee other areas, and explained his requirement, “I need a competent processing industry specialist.”

The Belarusian leader stressed that agriculture is not only crop farming and cattle breeding, but also processing and sale of products, “This is your scope of work. You are obliged to control the implementation of the programmes determined by the President. We worked on them together, you know them well.”

Explaining his decision to appoint Yuri Shuleiko as Deputy PM, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that he liked Shuleiko’s work as governor, “Frankly speaking, he did it well. It’s very important. He knows what’s going on there, too. I’m grateful that you accepted this position. Thank you. I think you can do it. We’re ready to support and help in this regard.”

The President also noted that it is necessary to build a good system of work in agriculture. As far as the work of the Brest Regional Executive Committee is concerned, Yuri Shuleiko will continue to oversee the main processes in the region until the appointment of a new governor. Moreover, the Head of State tasked to involve Mikhail Rusy, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Legislation and State Building of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, in the work in the Brest Region.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee will perform duties of a governor for the time being. According to the Head of State, Mikhail Rusy, Yuri Shuleiko, and new Head of the President Administration Dmitry Krutoi will help and support him. According to the Belarusian leader, the most important thing now is not to fail the harvesting campaign.
