2m+ foreign tourists visited Maldives in 2024, country's best result ever
The Maldives has been visited by more than two million tourists this year, most of them Chinese citizens, TASS reports
The Ministry of Tourism reported that this is the best result of the country in its history. In 2023, the Maldives was visited by 1.8m foreign tourists, in 2022 – 1.6m. According to Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, the largest number of tourists arrived in February: 217 thousand. "For the first time, so many guests arrived in a month. This year marked the fastest achievement of one million tourists," he added.
In 2025, the authorities intend to increase the figures by 15 percent and bring the number of tourists to at least 2.2m. The largest number of guests came to the Maldives from China — more than 260 thousand, followed by the Russian Federation (almost 220,000).
