The accompanying note to the published document contains an explanation that it’s proposed to change Article 73 of the Labour Code of Ukraine and three holidays. The new provision will define December 25th as the holiday of the Nativity of Christ, July 15th – the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, and October 1st – the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine.

The purpose of the innovation is also indicated, namely, ‘the rejection of the Russian heritage of imposing the celebration of the Nativity of Christ on January 7th’.

Until now, in Ukraine, the Day of Ukrainian Statehood fell on July 28th, and the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine – on October 14th.

The news agency’s material clarifies that earlier the decision to switch to a new calendar with the transfer of the celebration of Christmas to December 25th was made by the Bishops’ Council of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
