Yak-130 planes and Mi-24 helicopters working out air strikes on ground targets of hypothetical enemy, Khrenin commented on their goal
On September 25th, Belarus’ Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin is taking part in monitoring the conduct of an experiment on combat aviation control during aviation support for the ground forces, the Defence Ministry reports in its Telegram channel
According to the source, the experiment is part of a bilateral comprehensive exercise of Belarus’ Armed Forces.
"Yak-130 aircraft and Mi-24 helicopters are carrying out airstrikes against ground targets of a hypothetical enemy at the 210th aviation training ground,” the Defence Ministry reported.
In his talk with military journalists, Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin stressed, "We have chosen one of the most difficult forms of training: bilateral comprehensive exercises, which are the pinnacle of training troops and considered one of the most difficult drills – both for the leadership and trainees.”
As noted by the Defence Minster, the exercises have some peculiar features. “Firstly, they are organised with minimal restrictions for troops. Secondly, they are held not on usual training grounds, but on real terrain in three regions of our country. Thirdly, we are thus testing new forms and methods of using and managing troops – based on the experience of armed conflicts and, of course, the special military operation,” he explained.
Mr. Khenin added that – in addition to testing goals – the exercises have a research purpose, “As a result of them, we will check to what extent certain innovations or changes will be really acceptable, to what extent they can be used by the troops.”
“The reduction of time for making decisions to inflict fire damage to targets forms the basis of the exercises. This is an innovation in aviation management, and it is currently taking place at the training ground with certain restrictions – since there will be combat use here,” the Defence Minister noted.
“I believe that our troops will gain invaluable experience. Based on the results of these exercises, we will conduct a deep analysis – which will be further put into practice. We will continue to prepare – I would like to emphasise this once again – our own Armed Forces. We are not conducting these exercises against anyone: this is a prescheduled event – so no one should look for any conspiracy theories here,” Mr. Khrenin stressed.
