Xi Jinping underlined importance of peaceful coexistence between China and Japan
Peaceful coexistence between China and Japan corresponds to the key interests of the peoples of these two countries – as noted by Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, TASS reports
“The movement of China and Japan along the path of peaceful coexistence, friendship between generations, mutually beneficial co-operation and joint development corresponds to the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two countries,” the Chinese leader noted in a congratulatory message to Shigeru Ishiba, who has been recently elected the new prime minister of Japan.
Xi Jinping drew attention to the fact that China and Japan are separated by only a ‘narrow strip of water’ [referring to the East China Sea]. He expressed hope that Beijing and Tokyo will interact in a single vein, adhere to common principles and mutual agreements, ‘comprehensively develop bilateral mutually beneficial strategic ties’, and make joint efforts aiming to create ‘constructive and stable relations meeting the requirements of the new era’.
According to Xinhua news agency, Chinese Premier Li Qiang also sent congratulations to Shigeru Ishiba, stressing the need to ‘preserve the political foundation of bilateral relations, strengthen friendship, mutual trust and co-operation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries’.
It was reported earlier that on October 1st, Japan’s parliament confirmed Shigeru Ishiba, who heads the country’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, as the new prime minister.
