WHO demands more information from China on COVID-19 origin
The World Health Organisation (WHO) demands additional data from the Chinese leadership about the origin of COVID-19 and is ready to send its mission to conduct an investigation, RIA Novosti reports
The WHO wants ‘full access’ to information about the origin of the virus and is also calling on countries meeting with their Chinese counterparts to include this issue on the agenda – as noted by WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in an interview with the Financial Times. He said that the organisation has already written to China with a request to provide this information and is ready to send its team if the Chinese authorities give permission.
WHO Chief expressed confidence that sooner or later an answer about the origin of COVID-19 will be received. The organisation’s specialists are considering all options of the emergence of the virus, including its transmission from animals to humans. The possibility of a laboratory leak cannot be ruled out.
Earlier, CIS spokeswoman Tammy Kupperman Thorp said in an interview with Newsweek that the agency was studying allegations of bribery of experts to change conclusions about the origins of COVID-19.
