Volodin on preservation of military memorials: our duty is to do everything to preserve deeds of the fallen heroes
Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, at the meeting of the 64th session of the Parliamentary Assembly, held in Vitebsk, focused on the need to actively continue the work on the preservation and improvement of military graves and memorials
“Our duty is to do everything so that the deeds of the fallen heroes are not forgotten. We see what’s happening in the world. Washington and Brussels are doing everything to rewrite the history of WWII. The most affected in this war were the people of the Soviet Union, which included representatives of different nationalities. Today we live in different countries, independent states, but we must still jointly cherish the memory of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. We must remember the cost of the Great Victory, our present life, and preserve the historical heritage in memory of the fallen heroes.”
According to Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism of the Parliamentary Assembly Sergei Klishevich, in total, this year it’s planned to put in order and improve over forty objects on the territory of Belarus and Russia.
“No one questions the issues of preserving places of historical memory today. This is one of our main tasks, which will be implemented systematically. At the same time, we actively involve young people in this initiative. First of all, objects located in remote regions of our states were selected. Basically, these are small memorials in the borderlands: on the territory of the Pskov, Bryansk, Smolensk regions of Russia and the Vitebsk and Mogilev regions of Belarus.
