Volfovich on geopolitical situation: military force, rather than power of truth, come to the fore again
Military force has come to the fore again, not the power of truth – as stated by Aleksandr Volfovich, the State Secretary of the Security Council, at today’s opening of the National Security. Belarus 2024 international exhibition
Mr. Volfovich noted that, over the past two years since the previous similar show, the geopolitical situation on our planet has not become more stable and predictable, “Over the past year alone, more than twenty military conflicts have been unleashed and continued on different continents. The world is turning into a testing ground for global confrontation. There are no country or people on the planet who could feel absolutely safe. Military force is coming to the fore again, not the power of truth. At the strategic level, there is a hybridisation of military conflicts with the intensive use of information warfare and psychological methods of artificial intelligence, as well as quantum technologies. Interference in the internal affairs of states, undermining the internal political situation, provoking armed conflicts under the pretext of democratisation and the struggle for human rights are becoming the norm in resolving interstate contradictions.”
The State Secretary of the Security Council added that the nuclear and biological agenda is becoming increasingly relevant, “There is an intensification of measures to maintain constant combat readiness of strategic offensive forces. The media regularly raises topics about the creation of biological weapons. The problems of information security, and especially cybersecurity, are viewed from a new angle now. Every year, millions of cyber attacks from outside are recorded on the critical infrastructure of various countries, information resources of government agencies and citizens.”
According to Mr. Volfovich, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and complexes not only for civilian purposes, but also, unfortunately, for military ones is turning into a widespread problem. Finding a way to prevent their use by terrorists is becoming an urgent issue for security services. The inability of the countries of the collective West to implement a military scenario leads to a sanctions pressure on the economies of undesirable countries. The European Union and the United States have introduced an unprecedented number of illegal enforcement measures around the world, and their scale is expanding, sadly. In addition to economic sanctions, instruments of unleashing scientific, technological and industrial conflicts are increasingly being used to exert pressure on sovereign states.
Mr. Volfovich added that national interests of a number of countries prevail over international ones today, marking the beginning of a new era of interstate relations. Demographic sustainability, environmental protection, as well as the social sphere development as the basis for improving the quality of people’s life, are becoming increasingly important for each state.
“A responsible attitude to solving these issues will ensure not only the survival of any nation, but make it possible to think and act in the interests of future generations. The outlined supranational security measures are reflected in Belarus’ National Security Concept developed to counter modern challenges and threats, and to successfully protect the Belarusian statehood,” the State Secretary of the Security Council stressed, adding that this is a new page in the country’s development and its reaction to the changing global situation.
