Volfovich on Belarusian People’s Congress: people participating in governing their country
The approval of strategic planning documents, such as the Military Doctrine and the National Security Concept during the Belarusian People’s Congress shows that the people are involved in governing the country – as noted by State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich in his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel
A historical moment took place in the life of independent Belarus during the Belarusian People’s Congress. “This year the Belarusian People’s Congress acquired a constitutional status, becoming the supreme representative body of the people’s power and determining the strategic directions of the life of our state in line with the Constitution. This is the significance of this event,” Aleksandr Volfovich noted.
According to the State Secretary of the Security Council, the absolutely correct decision, dictated by life and time, was that the functions of the Belarusian People’s Congress also include the approval of strategic planning documents, such as the Military Doctrine and the National Security Concept – second in importance after the Constitution of Belarus.
“By submitting such documents to the Belarusian People’s Congress, we show and reveal the principle of the people’s power. We demonstrate that our people take part in the formation of such strategic planning documents and directly participate in the governing of their country. This underlines Belarus’ openness in comparison with other countries where such documents are closed. We also show our assessment of the current geopolitical environment, as well as how we are prepared to respond to the threats that this environment creates, most importantly – our readiness to defend the country’s national interests,” Mr. Volfovich underlined.
