Volfovich explained why Security Concept of Union State needs to be updated
In his talk with ONT TV channel, the State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, explained why changes are needed in the Security Concept of the Union State
It is expected that the Security Concept of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will be considered at an autumn session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
Mr. Volfovich recalled that the document in force was issued back in 1999. “A lot has changed in 25 years, including the geopolitical situation in the world. Completely new challenges, risks, and threats in the field of security have emerged, so a need has developed to update the acting document," he said.
According to Mr. Volfovich, the main task of this document is to preserve peace and ensure security on the territory of the Union State. He added that the presidents of Belarus and Russia, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, share similar views on the world events and understand the degree of threats that come primarily from the United States.
"The Security Concept of the Union State sets out our vision and attitude to the policy pursued by the United States, the European Union and NATO countries towards Belarus and Russia. We see their aggressiveness, and this has been taken into account and outlined in the Security Concept of the Union State. Naturally, the approaches towards other states that pursue a friendly policy towards us have been defined. We are always committed to mutual understanding, building a stable, mutually beneficial policy towards each other," Mr. Volfovich added.
