The parties discussed the possibilities of co-operation between the two countries in the energy sector, paying special attention to nuclear energy. Uzbekistan is planning to build its own nuclear power plant. “The experience of Belarus is of interest to us, this is one of the areas where we could develop our co-operation,” the diplomat noted.

Mr. Karankevich informed that the Belarusian NPP is already working for the country's economy, and the results are already significant. “Our specialists have developed certain competencies not only in terms of construction, but also in the field of assembly and installation of equipment, and commissioning operations,” he said.

The commissioning of Belarus’ nuclear power plant gave an impetus to the development of areas related to nuclear energy, including electric transport. Projects on the transfer of urban public transport to electric buses have been implemented in Zhodino and Shklov, and the Belarusian side is ready to share this experience.

"Within the framework of the working meeting, the possibilities of partnership between Belarus and Uzbekistan on the design and construction of electric grid infrastructure facilities were also considered. In addition, the parties discussed the potential of the organisations operating in Belarus’ gas and peat industries. The bilateral interest was voiced in mutually beneficial co-operation, and the meeting participants noted the positive dynamics of the growth of trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan. It was stressed that the agreements reached during the meeting of the heads of state in February this year contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations and the implementation of new joint projects," the press service of the Energy Ministry said in a statement.
