US, Chinese troops first taking part in international drills together
According to the South China Morning Post newspaper, the US Armed Forces and the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) are taking part in the Formosa international military exercise together for the first time, TASS reports
It is reported that the military drills – which will last until September 17th – are taking place in Brazil, involving 3,000 troops from several countries.
Last year, the US military also participated in the manoeuvres, observed by the Chinese military. The United States and China are participating in joint manoeuvres for the first time since 2016, when China joined the US-led RIMPAC exercise.
In addition, the forces of Argentina, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Republic of the Congo, France and South Africa are involved in the military drills. It is reported that troops are conducting training manoeuvres to control airspace and identify nuclear, chemical and biological threats.
