Up to 50,000 refugees likely to come to the Netherlands by 2025
The Dutch government plans to accept at least 49.8 thousand asylum seekers in 2025, TASS reports
It is noted that this figure is mentioned in the documents sent by the State Secretary for Justice and Security, Eric van der Burg, to the national Parliament and published on the website of the Dutch government.
An upper limit of 78.5 thousand refugees has been set for 2025, including those arriving for family reunification, as well as repeated asylum requests.
As noted by Eric van der Burg, such expectations are in line with the latest forecast, exceeding the 2023 figures to a significant extent. “Theoretically, it might not be that bad, but it is 30 percent higher than last year," he said.
In 2023, the number of asylum seekers reached 48.5 thousand people, which slightly exceeded the previously presented minimum scenario. Eric van der Burg noted that the pressure on the refugee reception system remains significant and no definite improvement in the situation is expected in the near future.
It is also clarified that these figures do not include refugees from Ukraine who continue to arrive in the Netherlands, but who do not need to apply for asylum. According to the State Secretary for Justice and Security, about 28,000 people from Ukraine will arrive in the Netherlands this year, which will lead to a total number of refugees from this country living in the Netherlands of about 136 thousand by the beginning of 2024.
