UNICEF: more than half of Ukrainian refugee children in Poland not attending schools
More than 50 percent of Ukrainian refugee children in Poland do not go to school, RIA Novosti reports with reference UN Children's Fund and UN Refugee Agency
The UNHCR representative in Poland, Kevin Allen, said, “We must capitalise on the education offered to Ukrainian children in Polish schools, and ensure that they attend — building the skills to contribute to a brighter future in Ukraine when conditions permit.”
According to the UNHCR, almost 173 thousand Ukrainian children are currently enrolled in Poland’s school system.
Low rates of Ukrainian children’s enrolment in Polish schools may be associated with several factors. According to the UNHCR, the situation is affected by the frequent relocation of children to and from Ukraine, difficulties with learning the Polish language, the lack of sufficient opportunities at educational institutions to accept new pupils.
