Belarus’ national report was multilaterally assessed in Bonn (Germany) within the framework of the 60th session of the subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Alongside our country, Austria, Greece, Denmark, Cyprus and the Czech Republic also presented their reports at the session. Within the framework of the UNFCCC, Belarus has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent against the 1990 level by 2020. In fact, our country has managed to reach the figure of 39 percent. The planned policies and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the Paris Agreement were also presented.

“In her speech, the head of the Belarusian delegation noted the negative impact of unilateral restrictive measures on Belarus’ fulfilment of its obligations, as well as on increasing their ambitiousness – necessary to achieve the global goal of mitigating the effects of climate change and adaptation to them. After the presentation, the Belarusian delegation members answered additional questions from representatives of China, Saudi Arabia and Brazil. The results achieved by our country in reducing greenhouse gas emissions were positively assessed by the participants of the session,” the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection noted.
