Ukrainian women began to be employed at coal mines due to shortage of personnel
Ukrainian coal mines employ hundreds of women due to lack of personnel, TASS reports with reference to Reuters
As noted by Reuters, the data of Ukraine’s DTEK Energy Holding says that approximately 400 women currently work at its mines, which is 2.5 percent of the total number of employees. This is due to the fact that about 3 thousand out of 20,000 (15 percent) male employees of the holding are involved in hostilities in Ukraine.
Before the conflict, women were not allowed to work underground. The corresponding ban had been in effect since Soviet times, TASS reported.
By the way, at the end of last month, Ukraine’s Justice Minister Denys Malyuska announced the involvement of prisoners in the mines.
