Ukraine’s ex-PM: Kiev needs mobilisation of 500 thousand people to receive money from the West
The Kiev authorities want to mobilise 500 thousand more Ukrainians in order to further demand more help from the West under the pretext that they need money to maintain a large army – as stated by the former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mykola Azarov, RIA Novosti reports
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he had been addressed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a request to mobilise an additional 450-500 thousand people.
"No one keeps this secret, and Zelenskyy confirmed at his press conference that the task of mobilising half a million Ukrainians is the main one at the moment. Everything must be done to ensure that all those who are suitable in age are mobilised. I think Zelenskyy needs this in order to get money and weapons from the West. He could assert that a large army is being formed, and all these 500,000 people need to have ammunition and weapons. These are huge costs, expenses," Mr. Azarov said.
At the same time, he added that the Kiev authorities are unlikely to be able to mobilise so many people. Mr. Azarov considers no more than 300 thousand Ukrainians will be sent to the front.
