Turkish citizenship can now be obtained after verification by Interpol and counterintelligence
Foreigners will be able to obtain Turkish citizenship only after passing the verification of the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) and Interpol, TASS reports
Ibrahim Tasyapan, the Director General of the Population and Citizenship Affairs Department at the Turkish Interior Ministry, noted that to obtain citizenship and identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Turkiye, it is no longer enough to purchase real estate or marry a citizen of this state.
“One of the most important stages of obtaining Turkish citizenship is passing the verification. Those who do not have the approval of the MIT and two confirmations from Interpol will not be able to obtain citizenship,” Cumhuriyet newspaper quoted him as saying.
It is noted that the Turkish government has decided to complicate the procedure for obtaining citizenship, including in the framework of combating cross-border crime.
