Szijjarto: Hungary, Turkiye propose to convene conference on Ukraine with participation of Russia

Hungary and Turkiye support the idea of convening an international peace conference on Ukraine with the participation of Russia – as stated by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, TASS reports

Commenting on the recent meeting between Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said that the talks – which took place on July 9th in Washington on the side-lines of the NATO Summit – centred round the ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

In his talk with the M1 TV channel, Mr. Szijjarto noted that Hungary and Turkiye ‘share the same opinion that a peace conference should be held in the coming period with the participation of both warring parties’. He also recalled that Russia was not present at the peace conference on Ukraine in Switzerland in June, and therefore ‘it is impossible to find a solution on the point in this format’.

Mr. Szijjarto added that Hungary and Turkiye agreed to co-ordinate their actions ‘so that the topic of peace in general could return to the agenda of international organisations’.

Earlier, Viktor Orban called his meeting with Erdogan in Washington ‘peacekeeping mission 4.0’. Last week, the Hungarian Prime Minister visited Kiev, Moscow and Beijing, where he discussed the possibility of ending the armed conflict in Ukraine.
