“We are dealing with selfishness and hypocrisy on the part of Europe, those who proudly declare that they do without Russian resources,” he said, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum. The Hungarian political explained that many European countries are buying more and more Russian oil and gas through ‘other sources’, while Hungary purchases gas from Russia directly.

Szijjarto noted that Hungary continues to liaise with Russia in the nuclear energy sector. At the same time, according to his estimates, European countries are also showing hypocrisy in this area, which Budapest seeks to counter, ensuring primarily the protection of its national interests. The Hungarian Foreign Minister stressed that co-operation with Russia meets this principle.

The 13th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum began its work on October 8th, focusing on the problems of the gas industry in Russia and the world. It will last until October 11th.
