Sweden ready to provide NATO, EU with spaceport for launching military satellites
The Swedish government is ready to provide the Esrange cosmodrome in Kiruna in the north of the country for launching military satellites of the European Union and NATO members, TASS reports with reference to the SVT TV channel
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom noted that this is important for the Swedish industrial base. According to him, co-operation is being established, which generates jobs and brings income to the Swedish treasury in the future.
It is reported that there is currently no possibility of sending military satellites into space from Europe. France offers such a service, but from a spaceport in French Guiana. The issue of using the spaceport in Sweden for these purposes has been discussed for some time, and a final decision has been made on it recently.
The first satellite will be launched from Esrange no earlier than 2025.
