State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council said new Eurasian security architecture is needed
In his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel, State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich said that a new Eurasian security architecture is needed
“Today, the United States and the collective West have withdrawn from almost all treaties that provided some kind of basic security and arms control. It all has been destroyed. Today, unfortunately, the leading international platforms — the UN, the OSCE, which were intended primarily to ensure and maintain peace and stability – are losing their importance. They don’t affect anything nowadays. Therefore, we currently need a new, I would say, Eurasian security architecture, and we suggested moving on to practical steps,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
He stressed that the events near Belarus’ border, the unrestrained growth of military activity, the increase in the number of weapons and military equipment on the territory of neighbouring states will not lead to anything good. “There are already talks about the use of nuclear weapons. All this can lead to a really very explosive situation,” the State Secretary of the Security Council underlined.
“One of our colleagues [at a meeting of high-ranking officials responsible for security issues and partners of the BRICS members in St. Petersburg] said that what is happening in the world today looks like a hotbed of fire that is spreading further and further, covering more and more new territories. If it is not localised, not extinguished, then this will really lead to a global fire and chaos,” Mr. Volfovich added.
