According to the State Border Committee, on the afternoon of July 14th, a border patrol came across a badly beaten man near the Latvian fence on the Belarusian territory. That was a citizen of Afghanistan, he explained that the Latvian police beat him badly the night before and then ousted into the territory of Belarus.

Belarusian border guards provided first aid to the refugee and called an ambulance. Upon arrival, the doctors diagnosed the Afghan with numerous hematomas and bruises of various parts of his body. It is reported that the Investigative Committee of Belarus is conducting the necessary investigative actions.

The State Border Committee noted that the European Union continues to demonstrate a racist approach to refugees, dividing them into ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. “While the ‘right’ refugees are assisted and granted asylum, the ‘wrong’ ones, often based on their origin and religion, are denied basic rights. Such actions not only violate international norms, but also undermine the values on which, as European leaders say, European society is built," the source commented on the incident.
