Sri Lanka began issuing free visas to citizens of seven countries
Sri Lanka has introduced a free visa regime for citizens of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan, RIA Novosti reports
The Sri Lanka Government Information Department said in a statement that the free visa regime for citizens of these countries will be valid until March 31st, 2024. Citizens must apply for an electronic travel permit before arriving in Sri Lanka.
Tourists can use a 30-day free visa under this scheme, while double entry is allowed from the date of their first arrival in the country for 30 days.
The Minister of Tourism and Lands, Harin Fernando, stressed that the authorities want to get more tourists from these seven states and achieve the goal of attracting five million travellers to visit Sri Lanka annually in the coming years.
