According to RTVE, it is assumed that Columbus was a Sephardic Jew.

The TV channel has released a documentary – Columbus DNA: The True Origin (Colón ADN. Su verdadero origen) – which reports that the remains kept in the Seville Cathedral belong to Columbus. The study was conducted for 22 years under the supervision of forensic scientist and professor of Legal Medicine at the University of Granada Dr. Jose Antonio Lorente.

“After studying hundreds of bones and documents, it can be argued that Christopher Columbus was a Jew,” reads the publication of the TV channel, dedicated to the documentary.

Dr. Lorente added that the navigator was most likely from the Western Mediterranean.

“Genetic data show that in addition to the fact that Columbus was Jewish, he was born on the western arc of the Mediterranean ... the studied lines place him in Mediterranean Spain among the Sephardim,” the publication notes.

In 2021, it became known that the University of Granada will conduct a DNA test of the remains of the discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus, in order to solve the mystery of his origin.
