Spanish government had to allocate 784m Euros to its agricultural sector due to drought
In Spain, the government has approved a new aid package for the agricultural sector in the amount of 784m Euros due to the severe drought, TASS reports
The decision was made by the Council of Ministers. It is reported that approximately 636.7m Euros of the total amount will be used as direct assistance to farmers and livestock breeders.
According to Europa Press, the Spanish government has accordingly increased the total amount of aid due to the drought to 2.19bn Euros.
Earlier, Politico reported that Europe will face a long-term crisis due to high temperatures in the summer and lack of moisture. Andrea Toreti, from the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, stressed that several European countries – such as Spain, Portugal, Italy and France – will face drought in the coming summer. Moreover, a dangerous drought-related situation is observed in Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece.
