South Africa said West put pressure on country’s authorities in order to achieve support for Ukraine

First Deputy Secretary General of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) Nomvula Mokonyane said that South Africa was pressured by western states to force the country’s authorities to support Ukraine, TASS reports

Nomvula Mokonyane said, “The special operation in Ukraine affected the countries of Africa and the Global South <...>, led to unprecedented pressure from the West on Russia <...>. There was pressure on South Africa so that our country would express support for Ukraine. This expressed the hypocrisy of Western politics.”

She also said that the African National Congress stands for dialogue and the settlement of international disputes through negotiations.
