Snopkov: last year, volume of Belarus’ investments into Russian economy totalled 10% of our GDP, or $5.5bn

In late 2022, Belarus entered the top five countries that are Russia’s main trading partners – as stated by Nikolai Snopkov, Belarus’ First Deputy Prime Minister during the plenary session at the 10th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia

The First Deputy PM noted that the trade turnover between our countries is growing on an ongoing basis. He assessed the substitution of export and import supplies from unfriendly countries as a ‘dynamic and calm’ process.

“The complementarity of our economies is obvious and is at an unprecedented high level. Mutual investments are growing, which is the most important thing. Over twenty-two years, the share of Belarus’ investments into the Russian economy amounted to 10 percent of our GDP, or $5.5bn.”

Nikolai Snopkov cited data according to which the number of Russian citizens employed in organisations interacting with Belarusian enterprises is 6.5 million people. If their families are taken into account, then the material well-being of about 20 million Russian citizens is connected with co-operation with Belarus.

“We hope and will do everything to ensure that these numbers grow. Just one example: of all Belarusian tractors produced, almost 70 percent are delivered to Russia, while almost 60 percent of the Belarusian tractor consists of Russian components. This is how we will continue to work,” the First Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
